Matrix Orthopaedics is a new Health Care Organisation based in Houghton-le-Spring, near Durham. Our chief aim is to reduce surgery waiting lists and provide high quality personalised care across the region.
A group of senior Orthopaedic Consultants from across the region have set up the company in response to radical government led changes in the healthcare environment.
Matrix is dedicated to planning and managing elective surgery in the North East of England; responsive to patients and health care purchasers subject to high standards of practice, clinical governance requirement and prevailing government targets.
Our aim is to provide surgical scheduling for patients in locations across the region, so helping to reduce patient waiting lists and improving patient care. The inpatient facilities utilised by Matrix are rapidly diversifying, currently encompassing Sunderland Royal, North East Surgical Centre, Gateshead and Spire Washington Hospital. Our contact with City Hospitals Sunderland has been perpetuated and increased for 2008/9. To date we have delivered 5251 inpatient procedures and seen 6550 new outpatients within waiting time targets.
The intention is to widen the Matrix service delivery base integrating with Primary Care and delivering services at health centres, hospitals-NHS or private, and treatment centres. We are currently seeking to enlist additional consultant specialists in all Orthopaedic fields including spinal surgery and medical pre assessment. We will introduce mandatory outcome scoring using the Bluespier system for key procedures in particular joint replacements working towards payments by results.
